Honolulu careers are especially supported by the tourism industry. Honolulu, Hawaii has always been regarded with great affection, flavor and approval particularly because of the renowned Waikiki Beach and Hanauma Bay. Honolulu is the United States' capital and has always been the largest city in the nation. The different races living in this city are Hispanic, White Non-Hispanic, Japanese, Filipino, Chinese, Native Korean, Black American Indian and other races.

Honolulu careers are provided mostly by the leisure and hospitality industry through hotels, aquarium, museums, bays and other recreational sites. Military defense, manufacturing and research are also progressive sectors. Products in Honolulu include pineapple, tropical flowers, rubber, macadamia nuts, beverage, papaya, construction materials, electronics, jewelry and clothing. Oceanography is one of the main focuses of research and development because of the large body of water surrounding Honolulu. Aquaculture and fish farming has been a continuous business in Honolulu. The production of seafood has brought income to the city. Agriculture has always been a part of Honolulu for a long time now and has continued to be very productive.

The ongoing development in the city has provided Honolulu careers in engineering. Civil engineers and electrical engineers have an important role in the construction of buildings and other infrastructures. Engineering jobs are catered by architectural firms, government, engineering firms and construction companies. A master's degree in civil engineering is not necessarily required but is preferred by some companies. A mechanical engineer is required to have three years of experience in this field of work. The field of engineering is broad and includes engineering jobs in construction, chemical, mining, environmental, mining, manufacturing, marine, mechanical, structural, biomedical and aerospace. During application, engineers in Honolulu are required to have a photocopy of their driver’s license and engineering license.

Tourism is a principal industry and a great source of Honolulu careers. Tourists come and go and the travel clerks, travel agents, reservations agents and transportation ticket agents are not common jobs in other cities but they are in Honolulu. Travel agents assist their clients with their travel arrangements. There are institutes that cater to educational advancement for travel agents. Marriot International Inc has the most number of employees providing 5,710 jobs. The second largest employer is the Starwood Hotels and Resorts having 5,300 employees. Honolulu grows pineapples and thus the large employer Del Monte Foods is able to provide jobs to pineapple pickers and other laborers. Honolulu International Airport, one of the largest employers, is very busy accommodating passengers and providing Honolulu careers. Aloha airlines are one of the biggest airline companies in Honolulu where most pilots, copilots, flight attendant and flight engineers work. Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach, Honolulu Advertiser, Royal Hawaiian Hotel, Sheraton, Hyatt Regency Waikiki Resort and Schofield Barracks are some of the largest employers in Honolulu.

Technology related sectors have a part in Honolulu careers. It includes computer software, biotechnology, earth science, satellite tracking, digital media, and astronomy. The global changes in Honolulu increased the number of workers in enterprises that are based on skills and knowledge. The information sector employs more than 8,000 people while professional and technical service employ more than 20,000 people. The film and digital media in Honolulu is important because it can create many jobs for skilled laborers and can give more exposure to the city as a tourist destination.

Beauty salons and spa parlors are well visited in Honolulu. Most of the customers are tourists who want to relax and beautify themselves. A wide variety of careers in esthetics are available in this field. Hairstylists, manicurists, pedicurists, barbers, hairstylists and cosmetologists are jobs found in beauty salons. Dermatology is another related field that benefits from Honolulu’s tourists and residents. High end skin care and treatments are done by dermatologists who are licensed.

Estheticians do not need a degree to be able to work. Experience and skill are the main basis although some salons require training certificates. Cosmetology is a major that some estheticians have graduated from. Those 16 years old and above can get a license as an esthetician. There are tests that they have to pass. Estheticians doing skincare have a different test. The median annual income of an esthetician is 30,000 dollars. As the population and economy grows esthetician jobs increase in number.
